Scottish Conservative Party leader Douglas Ross claimed credit for forcing Yousaf out of government and mocked reports of a potential deal between two potential SNP leadership contenders, John Swinney and Kate Forbes, as a "shady stitch-up" to avoid another leadership contest.

A representative from Forbes confirmed that an unofficial meeting occurred between the former leader and the ex-finance secretary on Tuesday.

This news has fueled rumors that Swinney will emerge as a unity candidate, aiming to bring various factions together before the upcoming general election.

In return, Forbes is reportedly being offered a significant role in Swinney's administration.
