Rishi Sunak Stands by Met Police Chief Amid Antisemitism Controversy: Apology Demanded for Jewish Man's Treatment

Rishi Sunak expressed confidence in Met Police chief Sir Mark Rowley despite criticism over how a Jewish man was treated during a pro-Palestinian march.
Sir Mark is under pressure to rebuild trust within the Jewish community after antisemitism campaigner Gideon Falter was called "openly Jewish" by police and threatened with arrest.

The Met Police has apologized and offered to meet Mr. Falter personally.

New footage published by Sky News shows Mr. Falter asking to pass through an area where pro-Palestinian protesters were marching in London on April 13.

A man identified as Mr. Falter, the head of the Campaign Against Antisemitism, wearing a kippah was prevented by police officers from passing through a protest area in London.

The officers offered to escort him through an alternate route for his safety.

During the exchange, an officer accused Mr. Falter of being disingenuous and trying to antagonize others by deliberately walking into the middle of the march.

Mr. Falter felt he was being treated unfairly for being Jewish and that his rights were being infringed upon.

The Home Secretary and Minister for Policing are scheduled to meet with the Met Police commissioner to discuss the incident on Monday.

Mr. Philp, a London politician, expressed concern over the safety and well-being of Jewish citizens in London, following an incident of antisemitic graffiti.

He sought reassurance from the Home Secretary and the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Sir Mark Rowley, that steps would be taken to prevent fear and harassment.

Sir Mark had previously apologized for the incident and Mr. Sunak, the Home Secretary, acknowledged it as wrong.

The politicians wanted to know what additional measures Sir Mark would implement to ensure the safety of all London citizens, particularly the Jewish community.
